John H Van Dyk Pty Ltd was founded by John Van Dyk, FRAIA, in 2000. Previously he worked here and overseas on a variety of projects from hospitals, commercial buildings to residential projects large and small, such as CML Office building Melbourne, hospitals in Iraq, Austin Hospital, Monash Medical, Ocean building Singapore, Crown Casino, various residential projects in Holland, France, USA, and a hospital in Bahrain.
John worked for a builder in Holland, before entering university to become an architect, who was involved with restoration works of historical buildings. John learned and, became very skilled, in all the various techniques of building and construction.
The very first restoration building where John honed his carpentry techniques. All the windows, doors, wood panelling etc all had to be made by hand from recycled timbers.
This early experience became invaluable for the many different projects he became involved with and John became known for his expertise in solving problems in relation to construction methods and difficult sites.
John had to requalify here in Australia and was elevated to Fellow status of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects in 1976.
He served for many years on the Practice committee of the Institute and is also an accredited Archicentre architect.
John has been passionate about sustainability design since the start of his career. He always felt that a project had to be oriented correctly, blend in with the site, materials carefully selected to make premises a joy, and be healthier, for the occupants to live in.
The designs of John H Van Dyk Pty Ltd are in a variety of styles. The practice strongly believes that a design should have a connection with the site, be environment friendly, but also reflect the client’s wishes and their life style.
John always believed in using the latest technology, such as Revit, a Building Information Modelling Software Tool. And the practice is fully orientated on the use of this very valuable tool and the added benefits it gives to our clients.
Autodesk Revit is architectural BIM software for Microsoft Windows, developed by Autodesk, which allows the user to design with parametric modelling and drafting elements. BIM is a new Computer Aided Design (CAD) paradigm that allows for intelligent, 3D and parametric object-based design. In this way, Revit provides full bi-directional associativity. A change anywhere is a change everywhere, instantly, with no user interaction to manually update any view. A BIM model contains the building's full life cycle, from concept to construction to decommissioning.
What the benefit of using this technology for you means, explained in simple terms is, that you can see a 3D representation of how your project is going to look like from the early rough concept design stage, right through to a final colour rendering . Which will also give you an accurate understanding of space in relation to placement of furniture and internal circulation.
